The next chapter in Sid Meier’s Civilization franchise is officially in development as Firaxis Games has announced a number of key departures, including Jake Solomon, the director of Marvel’s Midnight Suns, after 20 years.
In addition to Solomon’s departure, current studio boss Steve Martin is leaving Firaxis Games after 25 years, with Heather Hazen set to replace Martin as head of studio. Hazen joined the studio back in 2020 and previously served as executive producer on Epic Games’ Fortnite.
Speaking on her new role at Firaxis Games, Hazen commented:
I’m thrilled to have this opportunity to carry on the studio’s storied legacy, beginning with the announcement that Firaxis is in development on the next iteration of the legendary Civilization franchise. I’m lucky to be working with some of the best developers in our industry, and we have plans to take the Civilization franchise to exciting new heights for our millions of players around the world. In addition, we will continue to support Marvel’s Midnight Suns with post-launch content, and explore new creative projects for our teams.
Meanwhile, Ed Beach, who has remained an “integral part” of the development of the Sid Meier’s Civilisation franchise for 15 years, will remain in his role as creative director of the brand.
