Multiplayer arena shooter XDefiant has given the boot to the Tom Clancy branding, Ubisoft has revealed.
For those out of the loop, XDefiant features a number of characters and maps spanning multiple Tom Clancy franchise, such as Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon, Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell, and Tom Clancy’s The Division.
However, Ubisoft has now decided that new factions will be brought in from outside the Tom Clancy universe, and while we’ve yet to receive details on these, the company has opted to ditch the Tom Clancy branding altogether. Therefore, the game is simply known as XDefiant.
It’s also worth remembering that the development team previously said it was looking for feedback on the Tom Clancy branding following the game’s first closed testing. Players were largely unhappy with the branding, so it’s unsurprising to see it’s been dropped.

XDefiant will be having another round of testing, this time for the PC, although Ubisoft is planning further testing on home consoles at a later date.
