Published and developed by SEGA, the Valkyria Chronicles 4 release date has been confirmed for March 21. 2018 in Japan on PS4. A worldwide release is expected later in the year on PS4, Nintendo Switch and Xbox One.
Valkyria Chronicles 4 story
The Valkyria Chronicles series dates back to 2008 when the first game in series was released on PS3. The two sequels after that Valkyria Chronicles II and Valkyria Chronicles III were released on PSP, and Valkyria Chronicles Remastered, a slicker, faster running version of the original, launched on PS4 in 2016.
Valkyria Chronicles 4's story is set in the 1930's during the same time as the original game. Taking place in the midst of the Second European War in Europa, the Eastern Imperial Alliance are in battle against the Atlantic Federation.
In this fourth game, all efforts are being made to bring an end to the war and take over the Imperial capital. Commander Claude Wallace is at the helm with his Squad E of Federation soldiers to take on the Valkyria and the imperial soldiers.
Valkyria Chronicles 4 gameplay
Valkyria Chronicles 4 gameplay will be similar to the other games in the series and rather than adopt the same style as the spin-off Valkyria Revolution, it will be a straight-up tactical role-playing game. So, you can expect turn-based action that requires strategic thinking with a variety of classes to choose from.
In the announcement trailer, the developer spoke about their goal of making the player feel the same surprise, suffering and joy as the protagonists.
“It's not just a function of the story or the cutscenes”, says the developer, “but it's in the deep tactical simulation, in the smoothness of the controls, in everything, down to the tiniest details of the user interface”.
The six classes will include: Scout, Assault, Engineer, Lancer, Sniper, and Grenadier.
The BliTZ battle system has also been revealed. The developer writes:
“The BLiTZ battle system, which blends strategy and action, has carried out various evolutions including the series' largest maps, a higher number of units, new classes, and more. Actively move the characters on the field with a heightened sense of reality from the addition of counterattacks when under fire, and repel the enemy force while running about in real-time.”
Command mode has also been confirmed with the following details:
“When you start the battle, the terrain and position of enemy characters are displayed on the screen. This screen is called “Command Mode.” When it is the enemy's turn, you will first enter Command Mode and can get a full view of the current situation on the map and the positions of the enemy units. Choose which characters you want to take action while monitoring the terrain and enemy's position.
One CP is consumed when one character moves. When your CP becomes zero, it switches over to the enemy's turn. The enemy also has CP, which is uses to move. When the enemy's turn ends and it becomes an ally's turn again, you will recover a fixed amount of CP.”
One of the new systems is called the Brave system. Just before you die you'll be able to command one final action, called either ‘Rise Up' or ‘Entrust'. For the first option, you'll be invicible for a short period of time, and by selecting Entrust an Ally will help you and you'll recover one CP. Your final action will be dependent on which class you select.
Once again, Valkyria Chronicles 4 adopts the same art-style as the original games.

Valkyria Chronicles 4 characters
The Valkyria Chronicles 4 characters will be brand-new to the series. The latest characters revealed are:
- Angelica Farnaby - a girl suffering with memory loss who is taken to heart by the soldiers.
- Karen Stewart - A medic
- Ragnarok - The medic's dog
- Minerva Victor - Commanding officer of Squad F
Other confirmed Valkyria Chronicles 4 characters are Claude Wallace, the main protagonist in the game and first lieutenant of Edinburgh Army 101st Division No. 1 Battle Brigade No. 32 Armored Leisure Battalion Squad E squad .
RileyMiller, the game's heroine and also a member of the same squad as Wallace Also in Squad E will be division officers Raz and Kai Schulen.
On the antagonist's side, the Valkyria Chronicles 4 characters that we know about are Crymaria Levinc who is known as the Witch of the Snowstorm and tactical commander Forseti. Also part of an Imperial military unit called X-0 are Belgar and Chiara Rocino as well as Nikola Graf.
