Sony’s Mark Cerny Reveals His SSD Of Choice For Expanding PS5’s Internal Storage

Mark Cerny, the lead architect for the PS5 and creator of Knack, has revealed his top SSD choices for expanding the PS5’s storage now that Sony enabled the feature last week.

Last week, two major manufacturers in Seagate and Western Digital confirmed the release of PS5-compatible SSDs, and Cerny has now posted his recommendations for upgrading Sony’s new console. In fact, his top choice is Western Digital’s WD_BLACK SN850.

In case you missed it, the WD_BLACK SN850 features a number of different storage variations, including 500GB ($139.99), 1TB ($249.99), and 2TB ($429.99). While you can get one without the heatsink, Sony advises consumers purchase an SSD with one included.

Elsewhere, Cerny appeared to give the thumbs-up to Seagate’s FireCuda 530 by liking a tweet that asked if this option would be a good choice for upgrading the PS5 storage. Again, this device is available in multiple storage options.
