Sony’s PlayStation Plus service amassed 3.2 million subscribers in the UK alone during Q4 2021, according to a new report published by Ofcom.
This compares favourable to Xbox Game Pass and Xbox LIVE Gold, which have 2.6 and 1.5 million members, respectively, while Nintendo Switch Online has amassed 1.49 million subscribers. Furthermore, 50% of those who play online games were subscribed to at least one of those services.
Elsewhere, in terms of console gamers, the report reveals that smartphones beats traditional systems among adults, with 37% of adults preferring to game on their phones. However, 60% of 16-24 year olds game on consoles alongside 59% of children aged 3-15.

In regards to other online data, 39% of UK adults over the age 16 play online titles, alongside 56% of children aged 3-15. The average time gaming online is seven hours and 33 minutes, and includes consoles, PC, VR, and smartphone games.
Finally, ChildWise research states that 14% of children aged 5-16 have access to an Xbox Series X/S, beating out the PS5 with 10%. Nintendo Switch sees one third of all console-owning households possessing Ninty’s hybrid platform.
