PSVR 2 will not be backwards compatible with original PSVR games, Sony has confirmed.
Aside from its price, backwards compatiblity was one of the last major question marks surrounding Sony’s upcoming PSVR 2 as it emerged from a week which saw a number of hands-on impressions, with the majority waxing lyrical about the headset’s weight, visual fidelity, and flexibility.
Speaking on PlayStation’s weekly blogcast, Senior Vice President, Platform Experience, Hideaki Nishino relayed the news, saying that “PSVR games are not compatible with PSVR2 because PSVR2 is designed to deliver a truly next-generation VR experience.”
He continued: ‘’PSVR 2 has much more advanced features like an all-new controller with haptic feedback and adaptive triggers as I said, and inside-out tracking, eye tracking in it, 3D audio is coming together and 4K HDR, of course.”
‘’So, this means developing games for PSVR 2 requires a whole different approach than the original PSVR.”
