Sony Interactive Entertainment has announced that it will be hosting a free PS5, PS4 Online Multiplayer Weekend on August 27-28, 2022.
This means that you can game online without subscribing to PlayStation Plus for the duration of the multiplayer weekend. So, if you fancy taking Grand Theft Auto Online for a spin or scrapping in Tekken, you can do so this weekend without paying for the privilege.

PlayStation Plus is required to enjoy online multiplayer gaming for PS5 & PS4, although this wasn’t always the case back when the service launched in Summer 2010.
Sony completely revamped PS Plus earlier this year by splitting into a tiered subscription service, allowing you to choose between PS Plus Essential, PS Plus Extra and PS Plus Premium.
Essential is the same service that has been available for years, PS Plus Extra gives you a bunch of extra games for your membership (essentially what was available on PS Now) while PS Plus Premium offers all of the above plus PSOne, PS2, PS3 and PSP games.
