Star Wars Jedi: Survivor Brings New Combat And Traversal Mechanics, Director Reveals

In an interview with GameInformer, Star Wars Jedi: Survivor director Stig Asmussen talked about some of the new mechanics players will get to experience when jumping back into Cal Kestis’s boots this coming March.

Combat for example already seems to be far deeper than in the first game, with Cal now being able to switch between five distinguished stances, each appropriate for different circumstances.

“We have five fully realized stances in the game, a lot of it depends on the enemy that you’re coming across. It’s advantageous to use certain types of stances against certain types of enemies, and it’s up to the player to figure that out.

It requires the player to break down the enemies and figure out what the best weapon of choice is.”

On top of that, Cal’s bond with BD-1 has only grown stronger since we last saw them, and with that it sounds like BD-1 will be more imperative in traversal than before.

There will also just be more traversal options in general, with Cal being able to ride mounts to cross great distances, which Asmussen called “much of a wider Metroidvania approach.”

In more ways than one, Survivor is already shaping up to have much more depth than its predecessor.
