Speaking during an interview with Eurogamer, Dead Island 2‘s game director David Stenton revealed that the development team at Dambuster Studios is looking to make the ‘goriest game out there.’
Stanton revealed that the upcoming zombie sequel boasts a comprehensive gore system, and that the team are very much a fan of bloody 80s horror films, which seems to have influenced the direction with Dead Island 2’s red stuff.
We’ve been working on this stuff for years and years and years. We love those 80s horror films, pulp horror films – our aim was to make it absolutely the goriest game out there. But it ties into the gameplay, with dismemberment and melting and electric charging and burning the zombies and all, so it’s not just there as sort of window dressing, it genuinely ties into the way that you play the game.

Dead Island 2 was re-revealed after years of silence during GamesCom Opening Night Live yesterday, where a new trailer confirmed the game will launch on February 3, 2023 for PS5, PS4, PC, Xbox Series X/S and Xbox One.
The game will also received a Digital & Gold Edition via the PlayStation Store, which comes packing a range of additional in-game items.
