A new trademark filed by Konami has possibly hinted at its rumoured plans to revive the Castlevania franchise.
The trademark was applied for last week and published today, and is known as Project Zircon. Among the fields included in the trademark for use are “software for commercial video game machines.” However, most interesting is the fact Zircon is an item found in the Castlevania series, having made its debut in Castlevania: Symphony of the Night.
Project Zircon’s trademark filing also covers use in arcade machines and other “commercial prize-winning game machines,” suggesting it may not pertain to a game console project.
The trademark filing comes amidst long-running rumours that Castlevania is set to be resurrected by Konami alongside Metal Gear Solid, and follows on its plans last October to bring back Silent Hill. The company is set to drop some major reveals at E3 2023, which will reportedly include a new Castlevania game.
